Next time you hear someone complain about a magazine cover being digitally enhanced, try directing her to the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit, “Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop.“ It turns out monkeying with photos has a long, illustrious history—an eerie, beautiful, one, to boot. And seeing the exhibit got me thinking: What’s wrong with a little manipulation?
